Think of your hormones as messengers that deliver information throughout your whole body at turbo speed. Now since hormones must transmit information to and from over 60 trillion cells, I am sure you can imagine how extremely complex this process must be. There are hundreds of different hormones in the human body, and the one that we keep hearing about the most is insulin. Insulin is a very interesting hormone because in a matter of minutes it can change from a good angel to an evil monster. Without an adequate supply of insulin, the human body would not be able to survive. This is one of the main reasons why many low carbohydrate diets fail. You need to eat enough carbohydrates to produce enough insulin for proper cell function. However, when you eat too many of the wrong carbohydrate foods, your body produces too much insulin, which disrupts the flow of communication and will eventually cause your cells to malfunction. As a result you put yourself at risk of developing a number of life threatening diseases as well as putting on fat.

 
 
Insulin has the power to either sustain your life or completely destroy it. When you maintain normal health levels of insulin, it delivers important nutrients to your cells. When you have too much insulin, it will promote a fat storage and cell malfunction. It will also promote aging and life threatening diseases. This is what I was referring to when I mentioned that insulin can be either a good angel or an evil monster.

 
 
Excess insulin disturbs the whole cell communication process. It sends mixed messages to the cells and causes them to produce too much or not enough of a particular substance. This cell miscommunications leads to a number of health problems in the body.
